Grilled Sausage Skewers

Looking for a great idea to clean out some of those veggies you just didn’t use this week?

Skewers are a simple meal, that take little prep time, and can help clear out your fridge.

For these skewers, I used garlic sausage, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, and red peppers. My favourite thing about skewers is that you can use just about anything, as long as you like it!

I first set the bamboo skewers themselves in a dish of water for 30 minutes. This guarantees that they wont light on fire on the BBQ. Then, I tried to cut up the ingredients into roughly the same size so that they would cook evenly.

I placed them on the grill, and turned them every so often, ( about 15- 20 minutes ) until the sausages were cooked.

This meal takes less than an hour to prep and cook, and I suggest using the day before grocery shopping, to clear out some of that space for new and amazing food finds.

Let me know what your favourite combination is in the comments below!

What’s in your backyard?

Our backyard if like a jungle, because I have been so busy with work and school, the backyard has become out of control.  There could be dinosaurs back there and I’d have no idea.

Yesterday I had some free time, so I went back there to do some gardening, and to my surprise, garlic scapes were growing everywhere! (verified by my horticulturalist friend, please don’t eat random things from the backyard without confirmation)

I seem to always miss them when they are in the grocery store for a week.

I cut them from the plant and brought them into the house to wash them and cut them up ready to fry.

Next thing I did was heat up the frying pan to med heat, and melt some butter, before throwing in the scapes and cooking them for about 5 minutes.

Once the scapes are bright green like the pictures here, they are ready for consumption. YUM! A little parmesan  cheese on top and bam! delicious home grown side dish.
